PIEDMONT - The Hurricane's weren't causing the rain Friday night against Southside and the wind was blowing in the Tigers favor all game.

With a frustrating first loss in the season opener, Wren fell to Southside 40-7.

It took Southside less than a minute to capitalize on their first drive with Tiger quarterback, Justin Goldsmith, finding reliable receiver Marion Butler racing down his own sideline for a 64-yard completion and touchdown.

Then, after sneaking in for a 2-pt conversion, the Tigers were up 8-0, more than the Golden 'Canes would be able to manage all night.

With a seemingly effortless throw and catch game going on for Southside, its aerial assault did little to brighten up the attitudes of Wren fans.

The Southside defense went on to add insult to injury by snagging two interceptions in the first half, one leading to the second Tiger touchdown in less than five first quarter minutes.

At halftime, the Tigers led 20-0 and wouldn't be caught.

Next week, Wren will re-charge and take on Palmetto away and Southside will battle East Burke at 7:30 p.m.
