DACUSVILLE - Despite bright, flashing lights, a man drove his vehicle at full speed into a deputy's patrol car during the Sept. 10 double fatal accident investigation, police said.
The deputy and an Explorer assisting him were using multiple means to warn oncoming traffic of the road closure of S.C. 183 from the head-on collision in which two people died, according to reports.
Just before midnight, authorities were still sorting out the scene of the original wreck when Sean Paul Sharp, 39, of 207 Oak Knoll Drive, Easley, approached from the Greenville area, the report said.
The deputy, stationed on S.C. 183 at North Old Mill Road, had "emergency lights activated and a spotlight, which was directed at the intersection, to warn traffic," the report said.
The Explorer was "also holding a neon light," the report said.
When the deputy saw Sharp's dark colored sedan nearing, he told the Explorer to get out of the way and both began waving flashlights at the car to get the driver's attention.
"Sean Paul Sharp ... struck my vehicle without any attempt to hit his brakes," the report said.
S.C. Highway Patrol spokeswoman Lance Cpl. Kathy Hiles said there were no injuries resulting from the crash which they also investigated.
SCHP performed a field sobriety test and Sharp was arrested on a charge of DUI, the report said.
Sharp was taken to the Pickens County Detention Center where he was booked on that charge, Hiles said.
Additional charges include operating uninsured vehicle and no vehicle tag, according to detention center personnel.
Sharp was released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond on Sept. 11.
