EASLEY - The good news is that the Easley Green Wave shut down their opponents, the Wren Hurricanes, for almost three full quarters and scored the final two touchdowns of the game.

The bad news is that Easley still came up short, falling to Wren 21-12 in the final game of the 2008 season.

The loss dropped Easley to 0-11 for the season, the Green Wave's third winless season in 86 years of football.

Easley looked to be in line for an early score when Rashaad White intercepted a Wren pass on the Hurricane's first drive at the Green Wave 38-yard line. But was unable to move the ball and punted the ball back to Wren four plays later.

Neither team did much through the first half of the initial quarter. With just over five minutes remaining in the quarter, the Hurricanes began a steady drive that resulted in points early in the second quarter. A three-yard run by Austin McCaskill capped the 13-play, 68 yard drive. The drive almost stalled at Wren faced a fourth-and-three situation on the Easley 7-yard line on the final play of the first quarter.

Rather than go for the field goal, Coach Jeff Tate opted to attempt a fourth down conversion. A five-yard pass from quarterback Austin McCaskill to Chris Perdomo gave Wren a first down at the Easley two.

Wren's second score came on a 58-yard pass from McCaskill to Sidney Rhodes for a touchdown.

On the ensuing kickoff, Wren surprised Easley with a successful on-side kick, giving the Hurricanes the ball on the Green Wave 40. On the first play of that drive, McCaskill and Rhodes hooked up again, this time for a 40-yard touchdown, giving Wren a 21-0 lead.

While the Hurricanes would continue to move the ball through the rest of the game, that was their last trip to the end zone in the game.

Easley's next drive ended with an unsuccessful 47-yard field goal attempt..

With just over a minute remaining in the half, Easley took one more shot at the end zone. A 37-yard pass form Rashaad White to Austin Helms put the Green Wave in scoring position. On the next play Easley scored a touchdown with an 8-yard pass from White to Nick Saccogna. The extra point attempt failed, leaving Easley behind 21-6 at halftime.

Easley began the third period with an 8-minute drive that ended with another failed field goal attempt, this one from 41 yards.

On their next drive, the Hurricanes reached Easley's 20, but had to give up the ball on downs.

Raymond Rogers of Wren ended the next Easley possession with an interception at the Wren 14-yard line.

Wren drove to the Easley 24, but Green Wave defender Joe McNeely caused a fumble there, and Frank Kelley recovered for Easley.

Easley was unable to move the ball and was forced to punt again. Wren again drove back to the Easley 20 before being forced to give up possession on downs.

Easley was able to drive the ball back into Hurricane territory, but Nate Holmes intercepted an Easley pass at the Wren 11 to end the drive.

Wren then put together a drive that reached the red zone. But Rashaad White intercepted a Wren pass at the Easley 3-yard line and returned it 68 yards to the Wren 29. A personal foul penalty against the Hurricanes gave Easley the ball on the Wren 14 with just over a minute left in the game. White hit nick Saccogna with a 2-yard touchdown pass with just 18 seconds remaining in the game. The two-point conversion attempt failed, and Easley trailed 21-12.

The Green Wave's on-side kick attempt failed, and Wren ran out the final seconds of the season.

Wren finishes the season 1-4 in Region 1-AAAA and 3-8 overall.
