PICKENS COUNTY - One of two men wanted for the assault and carjacking of an Easley woman has been found in Jacksonville, Fla., officials with the Pickens County Sheriff's Office said.

Christopher Denell Calloway, 35, was arrested by the Jacksonville County Sheriff's Office after deputies with that agency stopped the suspect and entered his name on the National Crime Information Center, said Capt. Carl Hudson, with the Pickens County Sheriff's Office.

"They ran his name through NCIC and saw that he was wanted in Pickens County," Hudson said, adding law enforcement agencies nationwide have access to the electronic data-base which allows information from each department to be readily available to other law enforcement divisions throughout the United States.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office has submitted documents seeking Calloway's extradition back to South Carolina and is awaiting information on whether the suspect will waive or fight his return to the county to face charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, carjacking, and grand larceny, Hudson said.

"We are waiting for an order from Jacksonville telling us to come and get him," he said. "Once we receive that order, we'll have ten days to pick him up."

Hudson said that the Greenville County Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon, which has also been seeking Calloway for a probation violation, will be traveling to Florida to retrieve the man once the pickup order is received.

On Nov. 20, an Easley woman was attacked and her vehicle stolen as she left the Farmer's Market Bi-Fast, located near Whispering Pickens sub-division on S.C. 93.

When the victim sat down in her car, Calloway and his brother, Alton Clarance Calloway, both of Greenville, allegedly drug her from the vehicle and stunned her with a tazer gun before fleeing in her 2007 Toyota Camry.

The victim, who fell to the pavement during the attack, received injuries to her upper body and arms.

A warrant for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature has been issued for Alton Clarance Calloway, 39, of 19 Piedmont Avenue, in Greenville.

Hudson said that often people who commit crimes will often flee to another state in hopes that they will not be found or that should they be discovered it will be financially irresponsible for a law enforcement agency to extradite them.
