New Easley High School nears completion

The new Easley High School, part of the School District of Pickens County’s massive building project is nearing completion.

The school, set to begin use with the 2012 school year, covers 162.85 acres at 1249 Pelzer Highway in Easley.

The campus will include all of the high school’s sports facilities, including a new football stadium, basketball/volleyball coliseum, baseball diamond and other sports facilities.

Schools will be built with administration and guidance areas, cafeterias and kitchens, media centers,

gymnasiums, locker rooms, auditoriums and fine arts facilities to handle the 2007-2008 45-day enrollment.

The school is designed to serve its current number of students plus 20 percent growth, which comes to 1985

students. The guaranteed completion date is 20 months from the beginning of construction. A grand opening is planned for August.

The guarateed maximum price is $36,841,036.

Upon the completion of the new Easley High Scool, work will begin converting the current Easley High Scool builing on Pendleton Street into a second middle school for the Easley area. Current plans call for the demolishion of the old gym, Scott Auditorium, the current band room and several other buildings on the current campus.

In addition, Gettys Middle School will be totally remodeled, to include more safety features and house a second middle school in Easley.
