LIBERTY—A Memorial Day fishing trip resulted in a deadly outcome for one Liberty resident.
According to Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelly, Jeffery Scott Powell fell to his death while fishing with his family behind 161 Bear Hollow Road in Sunset early Monday morning.
Powell, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was with his son, brother, and nephew when he lost his footing and fell into a ravine, hitting the water.
Powell’s death is still under investigation by the Pickens County Sheriff’s office, and an autopsy to determine cause of death was scheduled for Tuesday.
