It was later that afternoon, about five hours after law enforcement officials surrounded the 207 Marc Lane home, that members of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office tactical team discovered the body of the homeowner inside the new double-wide mobile home.
The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of his family, Captain Phil Sargent, with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, said.
Law enforcement believed the incident iinvolve an armed suspect barricading himself inside the home,
It began shortly after 9 a.m. with a 9-1-1 emergency call from a cell phone into the sheriff’s office communications center, Sargent said.
When the caller disconnected the telephone lines, the dispatcher called the cell phone, only to hear the sounds of a disturbance in the background, he said.
A deputy responded to the home and was able to get an unidentified female inside the house to leave, he said.
The deputy left the property and requested assistance, he said.
Throughout the morning and into the afternoon, law enforcement prepared to forcibly enter the residence after communications with the man failed.
Tactical teams from both the Pickens County and Greenville County Sheriff’s offices responded to the scene, along with emergency medical units and the Liberty Fire Department.
Around 2:30 p.m., the tactical teams gained entry to the home and discovered the body of the man lying in the bathroom of the residence.
Information on the man’s death is not available at this time.
Residents of the community said the man and woman residing at that location had only been living there for about a year.
