The 21st annual Greater Pickens Chamber of Commerce will offer the opportunity to improve local business and save a life.
The chamber seeks sponsors and teams for the event to be held Sept. 20 at The Rock Golf Course. It is one of the organization’s chief fund raisers of the year and part of the proceeds will go to support Operation Save A Life, a Pickens County YMCA swimming education program for second and third graders.
The YMCA program is offered to all students in those two grade levels. In 2012, 200 students took advantage. The programs aim is the see all children learn to swim and reduce drowning deaths, said Ryan Smith, executive of the Pickens Branch of the YMCA. He also serves on the chamber board of directors.
This year’s event sees has been moved to a fall date in hopes of picking up additional participation, according to Executive Director Mike Parrott. Organizers also moved the time to afternoon for the same reason and to improve opportunities for networking .
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon, sponsor recognition at 12:45 and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Awards will be presented at 6 p.m.
First prize is a round of golf at The Rock Golf Course, second and third place winners will get their pick of a selection of gifts. The tournament also offers prizes for hole-in-one, closest to the pin and longest drive.
A team can play for $200, including 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls, goodie bags, lunch and refreshments. Individuals can sign up to play for $50 and will be grouped with a team.
Sponsorships range from $75 for a tee sponsorship, $100 for a hole sponsorship , $400 for an iron sponsorship and $750 for a tournament sponsorship.
