The City of Easley Banner and Wayfinding Committee met Tuesday morning to discuss the holiday banners planned to adorn the downtown roadway and U.S. 123 Bypass.

The Wayfinding Committee consists of three city councilmembers, Chris Mann, Dave Watson, Kim Valentin, and the city administrator, Fox Simons.

The committee was founded one year ago.

“The Mayor appointed this committee to look into the beautification and upgrading of our signs, and we have funds available to better the signage going into Easley,” said City Councilmember Kim Valentin.

The committee is also working with Michael Barnes of Sunset Enterprises in Easley.

“We are working with Michael Barnes, requesting quotes on banners and helping us to design signs. Michael was a local guy that we decided to work with, “said Valentin.

The holiday banners will hang in downtown and on US 123.

“We are going to install holiday banners through downtown Easley, we are going to make them 2x4 and they will be installed on every other pole totaling 30. Highway 123 will probably have 30 banners as well, but it will probably be one banner every third pole because of the length of 123,” said Valentin.

The committee expressed concern for the size of the banners on US 123 being too small for faster moving vehicles amidst the heavy signage of thehighway.

“As you pass by, we want them to be seen, so the signs on 123 will measure 2x6,” said Valentin.
