ANDERSON COUNTY-District six in Anderson County held a Town Hall meeting at the Powdersville Library on Thursday, Sept. 27, to discuss a variety of community issues.
One key feature discussed at the meeting was the accommodation tax.
“The tax is a percentage that we get off of people when they come to events in Anderson County, stay in hotels, and pay a tax on those rooms. We get part of that money to use for things that will bring them back to Anderson,” said Anderson County Councilman, Ken Waters.
The Town Hall meeting provided a forum for District Six officials to make residents and business owners aware of the accommodation tax application.
“Members of the community or a civic group can apply for the accommodation tax. Their application will be reviewed by a committee and if they are awarded the money, they can use it to fund a variety of events,” said Waters.
Applications can be picked up at the Anderson County Courthouse.
“We will be using some of that money to build a new bathroom at Hurricane Springs Park. Next year we will work on Dolley Cooper Park. What I would like to do is get a committee together from the Powdersville area that would be willing to help plan what we could do at the park,” said Waters. “Next year when the budget comes out, we will be able to put our money on that.”
The next Town Hall meeting in Powdersville is expected at the end of the month.
