LIBERTY—A civil hearing to determine rightful possession of a Chihuahua is set for this Thursday at 10 a.m. in Liberty.

Keith and Kerri Blanton claim Easley City Councilman Dave Watson currently maintains custody of their four-pound dog after having lost the Chihuahua earlier this summer. A court date to decide the matter was set for late October in Easley, but the case was recently moved to Liberty.

Easley Magistrate Judge Michael Baker said the case was not moved as a result of extensive media coverage, but because of ex parte communications he had with the Blanton’s prior to the hearing date.

Baker said, “I heard some things I shouldn’t have heard.”

The Magistrate Court in Liberty is located at 147-B Kay Holcombe Rd.
