EASLEY — Baptist Easley Hospital recently named Karen Ardis, MD, the Cam Underhill Practicing Excellence Physician of the Quarter award winner. The award is based on the Baptist Easley Medical Staff Standards of Behavior: Integrity, Compassion, and Competence. Dr. Ardis, currently President of the Medical Staff, serves as Medical Director of the Wound and Hyperbaric Center and also as Chief Medical Information Officer.
Dr. Ardis’ nomination noted that over the last several months, physician practices have been undergoing a great deal of change associated with the implementation of the new EMR (electronic medical record). Dr. Ardis is consistently willing to share her vast knowledge of the electronic medical record systems with anyone who has questions, in a manner that is supportive and educational. She puts each person at ease with her approach and is respectful of the role each plays in the care of the patient.
Dr. Ardis’ nomination concluded with, “One might say that this is all within her roles and responsibilities as our Chief Medical Information Officer. However, her approach hasn’t been about doing a job, but rather about providing a service that has been delivered with caring and passion, for doing the right things for her peers, our staff, and most importantly those we serve. She has been priceless, and we are fortunate to have her in this role.”
Dr. Ardis received her medical training at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC, and her residency at the Medical Center of Delaware in Wilmington, DE. She is board certified in Family Medicine.
