EASLEY—Easley citizens approve of the city’s move toward becoming more bicycle friendly.

“In my four years on city council, this one issue has attracted more citizen input than any committee I’ve been involved with,” said Councilman David Watson, who serves on the city’s bicycle committee.

Council voted last Monday to award a contract for $71,000 to Alta Planning and Design to develop a bicycle and pedestrian master plan.

Councilman Brian Garrison noted that the plan is for more than bicycle trails in the city.

“It is also a plan to improve pedestrian traffic in the city,” Garrison said.

Mayor Larry Bagwell noted that the $71,000 does not come totally from the city coffers. “This comes from $60,000 that was part of a GPATs grant, and $11,000 in matching funds from the city.”
