There are many ways to honor veterans this Monday for Memorial Day. Flags, ceremonies and patriotic music will likely be part of several celebrations this weekend.
We’ve thought of one other method — supporting the Pickens County Honor Flight program.
Honor Flight is raising funds to fly World War II veterans from Pickens County to Washington, D.C., so they can see the World War II Memorial there. Sadly, many members of what has been called “the greatest generation” are no longer alive to see this special tribute to their courage and dedication to their country. Though Honor Flight, thousands of WWII veterans across the nation will be able to see this special tribute.
Memorial Day is a paid holiday for many of us. It is a day in which we do not work because we want to take time to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if some of us would donate the money we earn on this paid holiday to Honor Flight. What a fitting memorial that would be.
