PICKENS COUNTY—The group of Pickens County people who are organizing a Honor Flight trip for local World War II veterans have set a date for their visit to Washington, D.C.
The veterans and caretakers will take a chartered flight from Greenville-Spartanburg Airport early Sept. 9, and return to GSA the same day.
“We hope we are blessed with good weather,” said Pickens County Assistant Sheriff Tim Morgan.
The Pickens County Sheriff’s Department and local American Legion Posts are co-sponsoring the trip. Officials from both groups are raising money for the trip, which allows World War II veterans to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.
One of the more popular methods of fundraising has been the sell of “Honor Flight” buttons.
“We just ask for a donation,” Morgan said. “People usually give at least two dollars, which helps us a lot.”
An auction is also being organized by Easley City Councilman David Watson, who also owns and operates Mountain View Auctions.
Proceeds from the Memorial Day program at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville will also benefit Honor Flight.
