CENTRAL — A Central woman has been charged with escape from custody after running out the back door of the Central Police Department.

Ellen Carol Eubanks, 29, is charged with shoplifting, trespass after notice and escape from custody, warrants state.

Police originally arrested Eubanks on the shoplifting charge after she allegedly placed a can of beer in her purse while at the Central Wal-Mart, according to a Central Police Department incident report.

Eubanks had already been placed on a trespass notice, the report said.

After transporting Eubanks to the police department, the arresting officer stepped out of the room to deliver paperwork concerning the arrest to another officer.

Eubanks escaped out the door while the officer was out of the room, the report said.

She then allegedly flagged down a car and was taken back to the Wal-Mart where her vehicle was parked, the report stated.

She was apprehended in Clemson and taken to the Pickens County Law Enforcement Center, where she was placed under a $15,700 surety bond.
