EASLEY – The Easley fire that took the life of a 58-year-old woman, Nancy McGlothin may not have been accidental according to Easley Fire Chief Butch Womack.
On June 11, a mobile home caught on fire on Mary Jane Drive causing another fire to start in a neighboring home. McGlothin was the only fatality.
“We think this fire may not have been accidental,” said Womack.
Womack said he thinks the fire was probably set, but he isn’t quite sure how yet.
“We have to wait on the Coroner’s toxicology reports to come back before we will find out anything else,” said Womack.
Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley said an autopsy was performed on McGlothin on June 12, after her body was recovered from the mobile home. The autopsy showed that the cause of death was smoke inhalation and thermal burns.
An investigation of the fire continues.
