Cecil M. Pilgrim, 68, was traveling south on Thomas Mill Road when his 2009 Dodge Challenger went off the left side of the road, struck a culvert and then several power poles, according to Lance Cpl. Kathy Hiles of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The accident happened just before 11 a.m. near Hester Store Road, she said.
Pilgrim, of 216 Rackley Mill Road, was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma, according to coroner Kandy Kelley.
He was wearing a seat belt, she said.
According to Kelley, speed was a factor in the crash.
Power in the area was not affected, Hiles said.
The crash is being investigated by the coroner’s office and the highway patrol.
