PICKENS — The Pickens County YMCA will host the 2009 Carolina YMCA Swim League (CYSL) Summer Championship Swim Meet at the Pickens facility on Gentry Memorial Hwy.

The meet will take place on July 18 and 19 and the Pickens facility will be closed, but the Easley facility will remain open for members.

The Pickens County YMCA swim team is just one of 16 teams from all over South Carolina that will be competing in the Championship Meet this July. Close to 800 swimmers and their families will converge to Easley and Pickens for the two day event.

“We’re very excited to be hosting the State Championship Swim Meet,” said Sid Collins, CEO of Pickens County YMCA.

“This will not just benefit the YMCA, but the whole community,” he said. “Nearly 1,000 people will be coming to Pickens County and that will have a great impact on the economy of the community.”

The Pickens County YMCA swim team is asking all Pickens County businesses to welcome and support this event. Most of the teams will be staying overnight in one of Pickens County hotels. They will be visiting our restaurants, shops and stores.

Businesses can also help support the event by advertising at the meet. Businesses can advertise in the meet Heat sheet or they can sponsor an event or lane. If any business owner would like more information on this please contact Head Coach Larry McMahan at larry@pcymca.net.
