EASLEY — If the Big League World Series title is to remain in the state of South Carolina, it will be up to the host team — S.C. District One — to keep the championship trophy here.

S.C. District 6 — this year’s state champions — fell 3-2 to the Florida state champions — District 17 — in the semi-finals of the U.S. Southeast Regional Monday night.

Florida District 17 was set to play the host team, Florida District 21 Tuesday night in the Southeast Regional championship game. District 21 had defeated District 17 17-1 during pool play. Results of Tuesday night’s game were not available at press time.

The U.S. East Regional began Monday with the state champions of Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Massachusetts joining the host team from Dover, Del., for a double-elimination tournament. The championship game is scheduled for Friday.

So far in the U.S. West Regional in Bremerton, Washington, Hawaii is surprising everyone with a 3-0 record in pool play. If Hawaii is able to pull off the win in the Wetern Regional, it will make the first time a team from that state has played inthe BLWS since it moved to Easley nine years ago.

The championship game is set for Friday night.

The U.S. Central Regional begins today (Wednesday) in Wyoming, Mich., with the state champions of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio joining the host team to compete for the title.

One new twist to the U.S. Central Regional is that the semi-finals and championship will be decided in best-of-three series.

The championship series is set to begin 10 a.m. Saturday.
