PICKENS — A circuit court judge denied a request last Thursday to grant the killer of a Clemson University student a new trial, or to reconsider the death sentence against the serial rapist.

Judge Ned Miller denied the motion filed on behalf of Jerry Buck Inman, four months after sentencing him to death.

A jury found Inman guilty, and Miller later sentenced him to death for strangling 20-year-old Tiffany Souers to death in her Central apartment.

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Bob Ariail said Miller’s decision brings them one step closer Inman’s sentence being carried out.

Inman was scheduled to die last Monday, but execution has been delayed through the normal appeals process.

His attorney, Jim Bannister of Greenville, previously told The Sentinel that he expected his client to waive his rights to appeal at some point and that he wanted to die for the murder.

He did say, however, that Inman would have to pass a competency hearing before being allowed to drop his appeals.

Repeated attempts to reach Bannister for comment about the latest ruling have been unsuccessful.
