• Easley Chief of Police J.T. McKinney resigned his office so he could seek the elected office of county supervisor. Jim Freeman was promoted to the Police Chief’s position. Bob Lesley was named assistant chief.

• 15-year-ol Clay Whitmire of Easley was participating in the U.S. Golf Association’s Junior Championship in Palo Alto, Calif.
• 640 people received polio vaccines at a clinic sponsored by the Easley Jaycees.
• New births ar Easley Baptist Hospital included: Wanda Day Holliday, Robert Harris Sams, Melinda Gail Brown, Robert Dale Hooper, Deborah Kay Powell, Gregory Lee Reeves, Jody Ross Morgan, Danny Thomas Dillard, Buddy Darnell Tipton, Winford Dean Gibson, Ronnie Carol Powell, Amanda Gail Posey, Robert Glen Haynie, Jerry Allen Lewis, Tina Lee Masters and Mark Mitchel Porter.
