LIBERTY – Guitarist and songwriter Jacob Johnson will be appearing at Liberty High School for a one-night performance as part of Liberty’s “Football-less Fridays” series.

Johnson is a nationally touring artist who has played with musicians like Robert Randolph and Dave Matthews collaborator Tim Reynolds.

During the Sept. 4 event, he will be playing selections from his two albums. Johnson will collaborate with Walking Shadows, an improv comedy group made up of local high school students and organized by David Holland.

Holland works with the students around the county to teach them improv and theatre. He is the drama teacher at Liberty Middle School and was in this year’s Liberty Idol competition.

Walking Shadows creates improvised comedy based on audience suggestions.

Johnson is a native of Travelers Rest. He calls his style of guitar playing “Neo-acoustic folk/funk.”

Some of Johnson’s influences are Victor Wooten, Monte Montgomery, Willy Nelson, Jack Kerouac and Michael Hedgens.

The event will take place in the Liberty Middle School auditorium. It will be a family-friendly event. The show will begin at 8 p.m. and admission is $5.

On Sept. 18, Johnson will also be performing at Main Street Deli and Coffeehouse in Central at 8 p.m.
