Certainly, these outlandish actions were not the work of the majority of the fans or either team. But those actions let to many breaks in the team’s playing each other in football.
Last year a new tradition was started as fans became involved in a more productive form of fighting — the “Food Fight” for Pickens County Meals on Wheels Wheels. The fans of each school competed to see which would be able to contribute more to help feed people in the county.
While Pickens raised more money last year, the true winners of the competition were the hundreds of elderly who receive free meals delivered daily by Meals on Wheels volunteers.
Wouldn’t it be great if this attitude caught on with the rest of the world? Instead of bombing and threatening each other, nations could compete on who does the best job of feeding the hungry within their own borders.
A dream? Perhaps, but so was the idea of Pickens and Easley fans working together for a cause up until a year ago.
