Here’s another photo from Dub Fortner’s Easley Mill collection. One thing we’ve noticed about textile mills through Dub’s photos is that they are similar to Baptist churches in that they love to get together and eat. This picture is from the safety dinner for the mill’s first shift Spinnng and Spooler workers at Seigler’s Steak House in Walhalla. It is dated Dec. 8, 1953. Sept. 12, 1984

• A proposed school attedence zoning change would move 124 students from the overcrowed Forest Acres Elementary School in Easley to the newly-built West-End Elementary School.

• Combined Utilities was ready to try low-pressure, yellow-tinted street lights in an attempt to save money.

• Easley City Council unanimously approved a 10-year renewal of the lease for the Better Skills building.

• Easley defeated Seneca 7-0. Wren topped Pickens 24-0. Liberty lost to West-Oak in overtime, and Daniel beat Pendleton.

• Obituaries were printed for Joe Edward Finley, Essie Wilson Stansell, Arthur Lee Cowan, Tommy James Williams, John Glen McMillian, Rhoda Pearson Dean, Elzie Dodson, Jean Young Tinsley, Helen R. Steele, George Wilton Dickard, Mary Herbert Hall, Benjamin Lenhardt and Frank Arnold Myers.

• Fedders Fashion Shop on Main Street, Easley, was closing its doors after 58 years in business.

• Wedding announcements were printed for:

Tamera Lynn Boland to Stephen Ray Bradley;

Pamel Ruth Wilson to Michael Dee Crowe;

Glenda Elaine Ray to Charles Venson “Buddy” Morgan;

Deborah Ann Galloway to Gary Richard Ivey; and

Pamela Slater to Bobby Petty.

• Ethel McGaha of Easley celebrated her 90th birthday.

• Mr. and Mrs. George Cothron celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

• Engagements announcments were printed for:

Kimberly Ann Caldwell to Ronald Kevin Gilstrap; and

Laura Scobee to Keith Reeves.

• A birth announcement was printed for Barbara Jill Searcy.

Sept. 9, 1959

• Woodrow Nalley, an Easley police officer, was shot down in the line of duty. The man who shot Nalley then turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

• Births announced included Lammie Ruth Burmum, Henry James Usery, Tammy Renee Pelfrey, Mark Anthony Hall, Gregory Dean Raxter and Linda Lewis Morris.

• Obituaries were printed for Ennis Hoyt Watson, Mary Sanders, Pearle Nalley Tinsley, Rose King Boiter, Georgia Ligon, Woodrow Wilson Nalley, Calvin Wesley Sweezy and Earle James May.

• Easley defeated Rock Hill 7-0.

• Patsy Long wed Thomas Mattison Ariail.
