Steven T. Roberts Jr., 38, of 101 McCoy Street, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Coroner Kandy Kelley.
Roberts was in the passenger-side seat of a Chevrolet Cavalier when the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m., she said.
Maj. Tim Tollison of the Easley Police Department said the Cavalier was in the lane closest to the median, and the 1998 Kenworth was traveling in the lane closest to the sidewalk.
The driver of the Cavalier failed to yield right-of-way when it attempted to make a right-hand turn into Wendy’s from the wrong lane,” he said.
The car turned into the path of the 18 wheeler, which directly struck the Cavalier on the passenger side, he said.
The female driver of the car suffered what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, Tollison said.
Upon arrival at the scene, police found the Cavalier off the roadway in the landscaping in front of the restaurant and the Kenworth in the right-hand lane of traffic.
The accident is still under investigation, and Tollison said charges will be forthcoming once that investigation is complete.
