LANDRUM – Friday night was yet again another hard night on the football field for the Red Devils as the rain poured down in Landrum. Landrum’s quarterback kept the game alive on their side of the ball scoring four touchdowns.

The game was delayed for a little over an hour Friday night. There was another delay just before the start of the third quarter as teams were preparing to get underway for the start of play for another 20 minutes due to a lightning detection in the area.

The Red Devils were hoping for a win this week against the Cardinals. Landrum was Liberty’s last victory beating them 31-13 in the 2008 season. However, Landrum pulled out a 42-20 victory over the Red Devils this season.

Landrum started the game off strong despite the rain scoring 14 points in the first quarter with Bandon Cannon’s 24-yard run and then a 76-yard run by Blake Mistretta.

Landrum scored another touchdown in the second quarter when Brandon Cannon completed a 39-yard pass to Tyler Logan for a Cardinal score.

At the half, the Red Devils were down 21-0.

After a short delay of the ballgame, Liberty got its first score when quarterback Justin Smith ran for 23 yards for a touchdown. Landrum also scored a touchdown when Tyler Burell ran for 26 yards to score making the score 28-7 Landrum.

Liberty began the last quarter of play with a 9-yard run by Matt Whitworth followed closely by a Landrum touchdown run by Cannon. Liberty scored again quickly with a 34-yard run by Whitworth.

The last score of the game would go to the Cardinals when Cannon threw again a pass to Logan for 27-yards.

Liberty will try again for their first victory of the season on Friday at Walhalla. Walhalla lost its only game all season thus far early to Pickens. Since then, they have won three straight games and are coming off a big win over Traveler’s Rest this past Friday.
