UPSTATE – The TaTa Queens, the Upstate chapter of the Sweet Potato Queens, will hold a fundraiser dinner and play to fund projects for breast cancer patients in the community on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m.
The TaTa Queens present an original play, Boa’d Silly – The Musical, written by their very own TaTa Queen, Kathy Gillcrist. It is a comedy featuring the TaTa Queens themselves.
A special dinner and appetizer menu featuring Queenly delights will be available.
The TaTa Queens host fundraisers all over the Upstate of South Carolina to raise money for breast cancer awareness, research and to help those who have been affected by breast cancer in the area.
Their motto is “fun and frivolity with a focus.” They are a registered non-profit corporation in South Carolina. They also offer ways to meet the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of those who are affected.
The TaTas use humor to get their serious message across. They dress in hot pink to show their support for the cause. They want to get the message out about early detection and the importance of mammograms.
Each member of the TaTa Queens has been touched by breast cancer in some way – either personally or through family members and close friends.
The group now makes appearances in local Christmas parades, they hosted their own Inaugural TaTa Ball in March, they were on Your Carolina with Jack and Kimberly and they participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at ICAR in Greenville on Sept. 26.
Reservations are required for the Boa’d Silly event. Tickets may be purchased online in advance for $15 or at the door for $20. For reservations or for more information call 642-0888 or 381-RSVP. Tickets stubs will be used for a raffle as well. The show is for mature audiences only.
The event will be held at City Lights Under the Bridge located at 134 West Earle Street in Anderson.
The TaTa Queens will also be performing an early detection skit at Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Easley on Saturday, Oct. 24 during a breast cancer luncheon. They will be performing their original song “Mammograms Are Painless.” Later that evening, they will be in Clemson for the Clemson University Dig Pink volleyball match where Queen Jill will be singing the National Anthem. The TaTa Queens will also be in the Easley, Greenville and Anderson Christmas parades this year.
