Five to enter Easley's athletic hall of fame

EASLEY — Easley High School will induct five new members into its athletic Hall of Fame Friday, Oct. 30, during halftime of the Easley-Westside football game.

There will be a reception for the new Easley High School Hall of Fame Inductees held at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at Easley High School that night. All former Easley High School Hall of Fame inductees are invited to attend. A meal will be provided.”

Jack Moore

Jack is a 1951 graduate of Easley High School. He played as a guard on the Easley High Football team in 1949 for Coach Brice. Jack was employed with the local radio station, WELP, from 1956-1985, where he assisted with the formation of the Green Wave Booster Club.

Jack was a broadcaster of many local sporting events including football, basketball, and baseball. Jack knew every coach and every team. He was able to recall championship games by the score and by the play.

Jack was employed with The Easley Progress from 1985 to 2001. He also served as a photographer for the Easley High Football team for many years.

Dan Nunnery

Dan is a 1981 graduate of Easley High School. He lettered in basketball at Easley High for three years.

As a senior, Dan was a starter averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds per game. He made All-Region and All-County in Basketball. He was on the AAAA All-state Basketball Team. He was a starter on the North/South Allstar Team. He led the basketball team to a 17-7 record, to the Region Tournament Championship, and to the first state playoff bid since 1976.

The basketball team was ranked third in the state his senior year.

He then signed a college scholarship to play at Presbyterian College. During his freshman year at PC, he started 16 of 28 games, averaging 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds. In his sophmore year, he started 24 out of 30 games, was named Defensive player of the Year, averaging 7.2 points per game and 3.3 rebounds, and his team reached District 6 playoffs.

During his Junior year at Presbyterian College, he was a starter, was named Defensive Player of the Year, and averaged 4.7 points per game, averaged 2.6 rebounds, and completed 83 percent of his free-throws.

The team record was 25-6, and they also made District 6 playoffs. His senior year, he was a starter, was named Defensive Player of the Year, and averaged 5.4 points per game, averaged 2.6 rebounds, and completed 80 percent of his free-throws.

His team’s record was 24-8, making District 6 playoffs, and becoming nationally ranked. He was also an assistant coach for the PC Basketball Team after graduation.

Jennifer Robinson

Jennifer is a 1984 graduate of Easley High School. She lettered three years in volleyball. She was a part of the 1982 Region I AAAA Championship volleyball team, was team captain in 1984, and was also voted Most Valuable Player her senior year.

Jennifer also lettered in Basketball in 1984. She lettered threeyears in Track and Field, participating in the long jump, the triple jump, 4x100 relay, and 4x200 relay in 1984. Jennifer was a participant in the state championships, and still holds the record for the triple jump at 35 feet, 10 inches, set in 1984.

In the 4x100 relay, her team had a record of 50.1 seconds in 1984 which was made at the Pickens County Track meet. Her team also had a record of 1:53.8 in the 4x200 relay in 1980.

Todd Schonhar

Todd is a 1982 graduate of Easley High School. He was a member of the All-Region 4A Varsity Baseball team from 1979-1982.

He was also a 1979-82 team member of the Varsity Football team. During 1980-1982, he was a member of the All-Region AAAA Varsity Football team. In 1982 he was voted EHS Team Most Valuable Player. He was a member of the EHS varsity basketball Team during 1980-81.

Todd went on to be a member of the Clemson University Football team from 1982-1986, and a varsity letter member in 1985-86. In 1986, his team was part of the All-Academic Atlantic Coast Conference.

After graduating from Clemson, Todd went on to become a graduate assistant coach at Clemson University from 1987-89. He then served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma from 1989-90. He was an assistant football coach from 1990-98 at Northern Illinois University.

From 2001-03, he served as an assitant football coach at North Shore High School, where his team became 2003 AAAAA state champions.

From 2005-2006 Todd served as an assistant football coach at Tarleton State University.

Todd is currently a special teams coordinator and an outside receivers coach for Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Luther Washington

Luther is a graduate of Sterling High School and continued his education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte where he graduated in 1951.

After serving in the US Navy, Coach Washington began his teaching career at Liberty Colored High School in 1953.

When the consolidation of the African-American schools in Pickens County took place in 1955, Coach Washington moved to the new Clearview High School in Easley. While at Clearview, he served as head football coach and head girls’s basketball coach.

In 1969, when all schools in Pickens County completed the consolidation process, Coach Washington moved to Easley Junior High School and stayed there until 1987.

At Easley Junior High School, Coach Washington was an assistant football coach and the head football coach. During his tenure at Easley Junior High, he also served as an assistant football coach, assistant track coach and head track coach at Easley High School.

Coach Washington passed away in December, 2001.
