“It’s as good as it gets,” said Chuck Talbert of McAbee, Talbert, Halliday & Co., who reviewed the district’s bookkeeping.
The clean opinion gives reasonable assurance that the school district’s financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30 are free of material misstatement, according to Missy Campbell, who heads the finance department.
Along with accepting the report, the school board also voted 7-1 to allow superintendent Henry Hunt to develop the school calendars for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years instead of having a committee work on the calendar schedule.
Hunt made the request, saying the calendars will have to be set to give as much time as possible to prepare to open five new school buildings during those summers.
He said that will “constrict the flexibility in the calendars’ development.”
The board also nominated chairman Jim Shelton to represent this region on the S.C. School Boards Association board of directors.
“It would be a great opportunity for him and the board if he is elected,” said board member B.J. Skelton.
