UPSTATE—The Pickens and Daniel high school volleyball teams advanced to the third round of the AAA state playoffs Thursday, while Liberty was eliminated from the AA playoffs.

Daniel, the Western AAA champions, defeated Chapin in three straight games, 25-11, 25-21 and 25-18. The Lions will play at Peach Blossom champions Eastside Monday afternoon. The winner of that game will host the Upstate Championship game Wednesday afternoon.

Pickens fell behind Lugoff-Elgin by two games (22-25, 20-25), but won the final three games of the match (25-19, 25-22, 15-13) to advance in the playoffs. The Blue Flame will play at Riverside Monday afternoon. The winner of that game will be the visiting team for the Upstate title Wednesday.

The state championship game is set for 4 p.m., Nov. 7, at White Knoll High School, near Columbia.

Liberty fell to Keenan 25-18, 25-10 and 26-24 Wednesday. Keenan will now host Gilbert in the Upstate semi-finals for the AA level.
