Liberty names High School Heisman nominees

LIBERTY — Liberty High School’s Wendy’s High School Heisman Nominees for 2009 are Casey Reeves and Matt Whitworth. They are recognized for their outstanding contributions in academics, athletics and citizenship.

Both are ranked near the top of their senior class and served as graduation marshals for the 2009 class.

Casey is the daughter of Marty and Becky Reeves. She currently plays volleyball, basketball and softball at LHS and was also a member of the 2006 Competitive AA State Champion cheer team. Casey is a scholar athlete, a member of the Beta Club, Math team, FCA and is in the Teacher Cadet Program. Last summer, Casey represented LHS at Palmetto Girls State. In her spare time, Casey enjoys volunteering at various church camps and youth summer camps. She plans to attend college and double major in Physical Education and Early Childhood Education.

Matt is the son of Randy and Jan Whitworth. He is a member of FCA and Beta Club at LHS. He is in the Teacher Cadet Program, a scholar athlete and was a Boys State Nominee. He is also very active in his church youth group and helps with children’s church services. Matt plays both football and baseball at LHS. He is a 6 year letterman in baseball and a 5 year starter with All-Region honors his sophomore and junior years. In 2009, he was named the Skyline Region Player of the Year. Matt also represented the Upstate as a member of the Easley District 1 Host Baseball Team in the 2009 Big League World Series. He is also a 4 year letterman and starter in football. He was named All-Region his junior year and was selected to the Pickens All-County Football Team.
