CENTRAL—Berea’s last trip to Singleton Field was not a pleasant one. The Bulldogs fell 42-6 to the Daniel Lions in 2005, as both teams were in the Western AAA conference.

Two years later, re-alignment sent Berea, Greenville and Travelers Rest from Western AAA to reform the Peach Blossum AAA conference.

Friday night, Berea returned to Central to face the undefeated Lions in the first round of the AAA playoffs.

The Bulldogs found that the Lions certainly have not become any easier to defeat.

Daniel took a 28-0 lead by halftime, then held on to top Berea 38-0.

Berea ended its season at 5-6.

Daniel improved to 11-0. The Lions host Chester, the team that eliminated Daniel last year in the playoffs, in the second round of the playoffs Friday night.

Daniel took an early lead with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Tevan Robinson to DeAndre Hopkins in the opening minute of the game.

Later in the first quarter, William Wingard scored on a 4-yard run to give Daniel a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, C.J. Davidson scored on a 1-yard run, and Brandon Anderson ran in from 4 yards for another touchdown, leading to the Lions 28-0 halftime lead.

Wingard scored his second touchdown of the night on a 1-yard run in the third quarter.

A 28-yard field goal by Andrew Tregia rounded out the scoring.

The Lions defense kept Berea completely under control, allowing just 51 yards of total offense, and coming up with one fumble recovery and three interceptions.

Chester enters Friday’s game with a 10-1 record after defeating Greer 28-21 in the first round of the playoffs.

The Cyclones’ only loss came at Fairfield-Central, 28-24, costing Chester the Region 4-AAA championship.
