Here’s another from Dub Fortner’s collection of fire department photos. We’re pretty sure Dub kept this one because he has a love for red suits and long white beards, and is likely hidden in this photo. The only person identified in this photo is Assistant Fire Chief Roy Whitlock, who is in the back, leaning over some of the youngsters. Thursday, Nov. 29, 1934

• Easley Grocery Co. moved into the Martin Building, which was previously home to A&P Grocery Store.

• The development of a state park at Table Rock suffered a setback, as the owner of a 600-acre tract of land needed for the park refused to sell to the state for $1,800 per acre.

• Sheiff Ross continued his war against moonshiners, busting up a 65-gallong still near Oolenoy, and pouring out 45 gallons of beer.

• Obituaries were printed for Sam C. Boggs and Mildred Robinson.

• U.S. Rep. Hamilton Fish Jr. warned that unless the United States got a handle on foreign imports, the textile industry could some day be a thing of the past in America.

• A Progress editorial asked that the U.S. Postal Service lower the rate for mailing first-class letter from 3 cents back to the previous price of 2 cents.

• Easley lost to Chester 25-0 in football.

Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1959

• The new Royal Ambassador Camp being built on land donated by Mr. and Mrs. R.C. McCall was nearing completion.

• The citywide Thanksgiving service was set for Thursday at Easley Presbyterian Church.

• Senior trips to Washington were to be the decision of local school officials by a vote by the county school board. Previously, the board had voted not to allow any such trip until after graduation.

• The Rev. Charles Bolding of Glenwood was elected president of the Piedmont Baptist Association’s Pastor’s conference.

• Births included Robert Rhea Nash Jr., Terry Keith McAlister, William Michael Dodd, Deborah Lynn Medlin, Kenneth Scott Smith, Deborah Lynn Duncan, Jody Lawrence Harbin and Jerry Benjamin Kelley.

• Twelve Easley High School seniors were set to play in the season football finale against Liberty on Thanksgiving afternoon. Liberty’s squad also had 12 seniors.

• Obituaries were printed for Charlie Adcox, Thomas Wilson Mason, Gertrude McCollum, Welborn and Jodie C. Craig.

• Engagement included Mildred Juanita Gilstrap to Johnny Skinner and Anita Denora Stokes to David Ray Hendricks.

• Sybil Annette Jewell wed Charles Edward James.

• Policement and firemen throughout the country were honored at the annual municipal association banquet.

In Central, Babara Ann Berry was police officer of the year, and W. Herbert Thompson Jr. was the fireman of the year.

In Clemson, Edward L. Hudson was police officer of the year, and Paul Masterson was fireman of the year.

In Easley, Larry Thomas was police officer of the year, and Charles T. Hollingsworth was fireman of the year.

In Liberty, Jim Harris was police officer of the year, and Pat Turner was fireman of the year.

In Norris, Mike Sanders was police officer of the year, and Joe Bracken was fireman of the year.

In Pickens, Randall Chapman was police officer of the year, and John Frank Day was fireman of the year.

In Six Mile, Gret Kellie was fireman of the year.

Also honored were S.C. Highway Patrolman D.C. Henderson, Sheriff’s Deputy Jimmy L. Davis and Clemson University Security Officer Billy Lee.

• Go. Richard Riley named Vivian Hurt of Easley vice chairman of the state’s Children’s Trust Fund.

• Pickens County Council turned down a request by a Greenville County businessman to allow Motorcross Racing in Dacusville on Saturdays.

• Obituaries were printed for Jesse D. Searcy, Ruth Phillips Heaton, Sammy Johnson, Bill Norton, Cassie Lee Grant Chastain, Sallie Josephine Childress Finley, Jim Blassingame, Edna Margaret Lark McDaniel, Mary Catherine Moody Lingerfield, Jack B. Steward, Freeman I.V. Chastain, John Hord Allen and David C. “Hambone” Fuller.

• Dawn Elaine Kelley wed James Patric Durain.

• Engagements announced included:
