• The Liberty Jaycees announced plans to establish an Easley chapter, 10 years after the Easley group lost its original chapter.

• 81 Plaza South was under construction in Powdersville.

• Obituaries were printed for Mae Smith Childs, Larry Stephens, Barbara Terry Black, Mary Elizabeth Free Rowland and Weldon Earnest Simmons.

• Wedding announcements were printed for:

— Karen Lynn Evatt to Steven Edward Lusk;

— Laura Ann Tinsley to Hugh Edward Nuckolls;

— Margaret Virginia Johnson to Steven Carrol Wilson;

— Telisa Dawn Finley to Daniel Livingston Moyd III; and

— Linda Ann Yates to Daryl Ray Spaulding.

• An engagement announcement was printed for Melissa Anne Polivy to Richard Rollins II.

• Birthday announcements included Tabitha Marie Smith 6, Al Moody 6, Michael Chad Knight 2, Levi Jacob Black 1, Christina Annalisa Belcher 1, and Tari Felicia Anderson 1.

• A birth announcement was printed for Robert Steven Day Jr.

Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1959

• James Ralph Blackston, 27, of Easley, died in an apparent hunting accident.

• Leland Cook was re-elected Mayor of Norris.

• Hubert Smith, general manager of Fort Hill Natural Gas, resigned to accept a position in Florida.

• Recent births included Sherry Lynn Gilstrap, Donnie Junior Clark, Patricia Ann Jones, Angela Joy Nalley, Ronald Bryan Curtis, Susan Lela Foster, Michael Stanley Smith, Kimberly Dawn Henderson and Mark Henry Albertson

• The Easley Water and Light Commission moved from city hall to a converted warehouse across the street.

• Easley High school students gathered 29 boxes of presents for needy families in the area.

• Obituaries were printed for Henry Freeman William Earl Taylor, Jame J. Thomason, William B. Wilson, Olive Farr Moore, Bertha Mae Glazener Hand, George McDuffy “Mack” Porter, James Ralph Blackston, Barbara Moore, Mary Shreiff Jones and Lula G. Perry.

• Wedding announcements were printed for:

— Sybil Ann Rowell to Jerry Eugene McLeese;

— Amelia Galloway to Carl Wesley Porter; and

— Mary Assenitrh Jones Cook to Robert Calvin Boggs.

• Engagement announcements were printed for:

— Anne Marie Ragsdale to Charles Owen Dundas; and

– Alice Nan Williams to William J. Crotty Jr.

• The cornerstone of the Pickens County court house was opened as the building was being demolished to make room for a new court house. The cornerstone had been set in 1891, and included three Confederate bills, and one $20 Continental bill issued Sept. 26, 1778.

Also included were copies of The Anderson Independent, The Keowee Courier, The (Pickens) Peoples Journal, The Pickens Sentinel, The Greenville Daily News, The (Charleston) World, The (Charleston) Post and Courier, The Baptist Courier, The Anderson Journal, The Easley Democrat, and The (Columbia) State.
