Easley wins ‘Shootout By the Sea’ basketball tournament

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH—The Easley High School Green Wave boys basketball team defeated Hoggard High School from Wilmington, N.C., 62-55 in the championship game of the “Shootout by the Sea” tournament last Wednesday to take the title.

Joe Graver led the Green Wave with 17 points. Tim Pickel added 11 and Joel Cook and Spencer Collins each scored 10 points.

Easley had earned it spot in the championship game by defeating North Myrtle Beach High School 82-46 in the semi-finals. In that game Spencer Collins led Easley with 21 points. Tim Pickel added 20. Joel Cook and Joe Graver each scored 16.

In the first round of the tournament, Easley defeated North Raleigh Christian High School 81-58. Joel Graver and Tim Pickel led the Green Wave with 16 points each. Joel Cook added 15, and Spencer Collins scored 14.

Tim Pickel was the tournament Most Valuable Player. Joel Cook also made theall-tournament team.

Easley’s record is now11 -2. Easley will return home to host Daniel next Tuesday at McKelvey Gym in the final non-conference game of the regular season. Easley opens play in Region 1-AAAA Jan. 8 at Laurens.
