LIBERTY — A Liberty man died early Friday morning after his car went out of control and went into a fresh water spring, according to the coroner.

Christopher Tyler Wardlaw, 22, of 112 Byrnes St., was traveling south on S.C. 93 near Quarry Road when he lost control of his 1999 Buick four door, according to Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth.

The car went off the right side of the road, overcorrected and went off the right side of the road again before it flipped over and landed in a pool of water, he said.

Edgeworth said the road was blocked for one and a half hours during the investigation.

No one else was in the car at the time of the accident, he said.

Wardlaw died of fresh water drowning, as well as blunt force trauma to the neck and head, Kelley said.

An autopsy was performed at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Wardlaw was wearing a seat belt, according to Kelley.

The accident is being investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
