Easley to introduce new football coach Thursday night

EASLEY--Easley High School prinicipal Dr. Danny Merck and EHS athletic director Chris Carter will intoduce the school's new head football coach 7:15 p.m. Thursday night in the school's cafeteria.

The new coach will replase Stephen "Jabo" Burgess, who resigned at the end of last seasons after going 17-37 in five seasons as the Green Wave coach. Burgess won 14 games in his first two seasons, but was only able to come up with four more victories in his final three years.

Last year's team finished 1-10, following a winless 2008 campaign.

Easley last earned a spot in the playoffs in 2000, under Coach Mike Barnes.

The Green Wave football has a storied history that includes state championships in 1937, 1962, 1967 and 1972.
