EASLEY — Members of the school board unanimously approved Monday night the guaranteed maximum prices for the new Easley and Liberty high schools.

The cost for the new Liberty High School, provided by Gilbane SYS Constructors, is $28,683,007.

The also provided a maximum cost of $36,841,036 for the new Easley High School.

“These GMP are reflective of the scope, design, athletics and add alternates required by the district,” said Bob Folkman, building program administrator.

He said the price for the Easley school is conditional upon the receipt of a formal building permit from the Office of School facilities.

During Monday night’s called meeting, the board also approved the color selections for the new Dacusville and Chastain Road elementary schools.

The color pallets are similar, according to Julie Thompson, spokesperson for the school district.

She said architects and designers worked on a pallet for Dacusville that would echo the school’s mascot, the dolphin.

Finance director Missy Campbell also presented a proposed general fund calendar to the board, which outlines the meetings to be held and steps to be taken in preparing the budget for the 2010-2011 fiscal year.

Campbell said the district is currently addressing how to handle the latest rounds of cuts from the state.

The 5 percent cut was announced in December, but the district has not received any formal projection on how it will affect Pickens County, she said.

However, she said the issue will be addressed at the January board meeting

She said that despite continued state cuts, the school district’s mission to educate children has not changed.

“We’ve just got to figure out how to do it differently and with less,” she said.
