• The Board of Trustees for the School District of Pickens County considered closing East End Elementary because of the cost of proposed renovations and additions to the 35-year-old building.

• The annual Easley Football Jamoree was dedicated to retiring Presbyterian College football coach Calley Gault.

• Garnet Barnes was appointed to the S.C. State Development Board.

• Rep. Larry A. Martin was appointed Deputy Majority Whip in the S.C. House of Representatives.

• Recent births included: Michael Edgeworth Jr., Jamie Karen Lark, Thomas Berry Durham, Stevie Clarence Roach, Janie Thomas Lollis, Samuel Alfonso Burgess, Donna Jean Sentell, William Timothy Eddins and Curlie Lee Miller.
