The League is looking forward to yet another successful season after a season of firsts in 2009.
The greatest accomplishment by any group of kids in Easley Little League occurred last year in the Junior Division (13-14 year olds). The All Star team was able to win the Southern Region tournament in Cartersville, Ga. and advanced to the Jr. Division World Series held in Taylor, Mich.
This is a first for any team from Easley Little League. Hopefully it won’t be the last team from Easley as the 10U All Star team advanced to the Championship game of the State Tournament but lost in the final inning to Irmo Little League. This same group of kids played in the State Championship game two years ago in the Coaches Pitch Age group.
Not to be left out of the post season success was the 11U All Star team who advanced to the State Tournament as well.
The success of these All Star teams is a direct reflection of the number of quality baseball players who are in the Easley area and the number of committed parents and coaches as well.
Last year was also the first year that the league attempted to structure the divisions to give a positive baseball experience to every child who wanted to play America’s pastime. In some cases we were successful and some we were faced with opportunities for improvement.
With this being the second year of utilizing the T-Ball, AA, AAA and Major division the League will once again focus on making it a positive experience for all children and give everyone a chance to improve and be successful.
Again the structure of the divisions will be as follows: T-Ball (5-6 year olds) where the players first start learning to play and have limited coaches pitching to players; The AA (6-9 year olds) division is the division where coaches pitch a limited number of pitches to the players; In the AAA (8-11 year olds) division the players are now facing other players pitching and can steal bases; In Major (10-12 year olds) division you have the highest level of competition for children under the age of 12. It is this division that will field an All Star team who will have a chance to compete for a chance to play in the Little League World Series held in Williamsport, Penn., and televised by ESPN.
Children who are at an age where they are eligible for more than one division may be able to play in a higher division if both the parent and the coaches feel the player is ready for the advanced skill level.
An exciting change is occurring this year with the registration process for Easley Little League as the Easley Recreation Department is becoming more involved in registration.
Registration for the 2010 season has already begun and will end on Feb. 28. Anyone can register by filling out a registration form and turning it into the Easley Recreation department at the Larry Bagwell gymnasium.
This year the registration fees are 65 for residents in city and $80 out of city. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Easley Little League has not raised fees.
For more information on the league and Registration forms you can visit the league web site at www.easleylittleleague.org. Come out and register your son or daughter and we will see you out at the ball park.
