EASLEY—The Easley Green Wave boys basketball team was cruising through its Region 1-AAAA schedule when they hit a bump Jan. 15 against Westside. The Green Wave fell behind early, and was unable to make a late comeback, losing 43-39.

Friday night the Green Wave got revenge, taking a 14-10 lead after one quarter and building that on that lead throughout the game to win 62-51 and put themselves in the drivers seat for winning the Region 1-AAAA championship.

Easley was led by Joel Cook with 20 points. Joe Graver hit three 3-point shots and was a perfect 8 for 8 from the foul line, scoring 19 points in the game. Spencer Collins added 13 points and McKenzie Blandon scored 10.

Easley moves to 7-1 in Region 1-AAAA play. Tuesday Easley plays its final road game of the 2009-10 regular season at Greenwood. Easley completes its regular season with a home game against rival Wren.

The state AAAA playoffs begin Wednesday, Feb. 17. As Region 1-AAAA champions, the Green Wave would have the home court advantage in each round until the Upstate Championship game, set to be played at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville Feb. 26.

The AAAA State Championship game will be played March 5 at the Colonial Center in Columbia.
