EASLEY—By taking the Region 1-AAAA title, Easley has earned a special spot in the AAAA boys basketball state playoffs.

The Green Wave opens the playoffs Wednesday by hosting Mauldin. Easley will then continue to be the host team throughout the playoffs.

A Easley win Wednesday night would mean the Green Wave would be hosting a second-round game Saturday. A win in that game would advance Easley into the Upstate semi-finals with a home game Feb. 23.

The Upstate championship game will be played Feb. 26 at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville. Even though the Green Wave, if they advance that far, would not be playing in the comfort of McKelvey Gymnasium, Easley would still be designated the home team in that game.

The state championship game is set for March 5 in Columbia’s Colonial Center. The Upstate champion will be designated the home team for that game.

Easley wrapped up the Region 1-AAAA title with a 57-41 win over Wren Saturday.

Easley held a double-digit lead through most of the game, but Wren kept fighting back, cutting the lead to 6 at one point. A surge at the beginning of the fourth quarter helped Easley put the game out of reach.

The Green Wave girls finished their season winless, falling to Wren 68-41. Easley led 4-2 early, but the Hurricanes came back to take a 23-7 lead by halftime.

The Wren girls earned the fourth spot for Region 1-AAAA teams in the state playoffs. They will travel to Dorman High School Tuesday.

The Daniel boys and girls basketball teams each won the Western AAA championships. The girls will host Chester Tuesday. The boys will host a playoff game Tuesday against the fourth place team from Region 4-AAA.

The Pickens girls basketball team finished second in Western AAA and will host Eastside in the first round of the state playoffs Tuesday.
