PIEDMONT — A Wren High School student was killed Thursday night after he apparently lost control of his vehicle and drove off the side of the road, according to a S.C. Highway Patrol spokesman.

Seth Morton, 18, of 120B Turner Trail, Easley, was traveling south on Langston Road about 6 miles north of Williamston at about 9:05 p.m. Thursday, when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the side of the road and ended up striking a tree, according to Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth.

Anderson School District One spokesman John Pruitt confirmed that Morton was a student at Wren.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said Morton died at the scene at the time of the accident from chest and neck injuries.

The driver was trapped, and rescue workers had to get him out using extrication tools, Edgeworth said.

No other vehicles were involved in the wreck, according to Highway Patrol.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt, Edgeworth said.
