PICKENS—Ron Duncan, director of missions for the Pickens-Twelve Mile Baptist Association enjoyed his trip to Haiti and feels blessed to be part of the massive relief effort after the Jan. 12 earthquake.

But he doesn’t want to lose sight of those in need locally.

“It’s good to go somewhere and help somebody, but we’ve got people with needs right here in our own back yard,” Duncan said. “We just need the eyes of Jesus to see them.”

A former physics teacher at Pickens High School, who also operated a photography business, Duncan has served as a foreign missionary for the past several years.

He loves working in the field but is glad to be back home. His purpose has not changed.

“If you are a believer, wherever God puts you is your mission field.” Duncan said.
