The ceremony will be held on April 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the park. By then, flowers will be planted making it a very colorful area, Building Inspector for Easley Tommy Holcombe said.
“We met with landscapers and discussed planting flowers,” he said. “We want to wait until the last minute on that because of the weather. We are going to pick out flowers that are low maintenance but will be colorful.”
Mayor Larry Bagwell said at the dedication they will have the unveiling of the new City of Easley flag.
“The flag will be raised that day signifying that Easley has it’s own flag,” he said.
Before the dedication, the TIFF committee hopes to have the walkway in between Wingard Jewelers and Upscale and Consignment completed.
The group is looking at adding some beams to go across the treeless including some lighting for those who want to walk through to the park later in the evening. Right now the walkway has no lighting.
“I believe this will define the walkway,” Bagwell said. “This will give an entrance to our new green park and other areas right behind downtown.”
The beams would be made out of cypress. The group voted to keep the original color of the cypress instead of paint it white as defined in a photo shown to the group.
“I think natural is a better look,” Councilman Dave Watson said. “If you’re going to use cypress, it is a shame to cover it up. It blends in better with the city. I’d also like to leave the brick siding of the buildings alone.”
Some ideas were thrown around about painting murals up on the brick sides, but after a lot of discussion, the group decided to stick with the natural color of the cypress and keep the brick that was originally there on the buildings.
The brick will be blasted and sealed within the coming weeks and the project will move alone, Bagwell said.
