EASLEY ─ A 58-year-old bridge on Glenwood Road is going to be replaced, and the road will be closed for about 10 weeks during construction, according to S.C. Department of Transportation officials.

“It’s time has come,” said Brandon Wilson, district maintenance operations engineer for the SCDOT.

Workers will close off thru traffic on the road starting Monday, March 22 while maintenance forces replace the bridge, which crosses Georges Creek.

Meanwhile, those traveling through the area will have to take a detour.

The detour route begins at the intersection of S.C. 135 (Dacusville Highway) and Glenwood Road. It will then proceed south on S.C. 135 to Olive Street.

Travelers must turn on Olive Street and then proceed back to Glenwood Road.

The detour length is about 1.28 miles, according to Wilson.

He said construction of the bridge is expected to be completed by Friday, June 4.

The Glenwood bridge will be the fourth to be replaced since the SCDOT’s Maintenance Forces started building bridges again about a year ago, Wilson said.
