PICKENS COUNTY — Filing for candidates to run in this November’s election ended at noon Tuesday, and as of Progress press time, a number of seats will be contested.

Both Democrats and Republicans have thrown their hat in the ring for County Council. Democrat Jeff Martin and Republican Dr. Bill Reid are running for the District 1 seat, currently held by Dr. Jim London.

And two Republicans are running for Seat 2, including Randy Crenshaw and Trey Whitehurst.

The other contested race will be for the District 26 seat in the S.C. House of Representatives, currently held by Rep. Rex Rice.

Three Republicans — Eric Bikas of Easley, Henry Wilson of Dacusville and Dr. Joe Mills of Greenville — and Democrat Judy Gilstrap, are running for the office.

Others filing to run include Republicans B.R. Skelton for District 3 in the S.C. House of Representatives, Davey Hiott for District 4 and Phil Owens for District 5.

Probate judge Kathy Zorn has filed to seek re-election.
