EASLEY – On National Doctors’ Day, Baptist Easley Hospital honored John Cox, MD, as the Cam Underhill Practicing Excellence Physician of the Year.

A quarterly award winner for 2009, Cox received multiple nominations by patients and staff for the annual award and was cited for his compassion, kindness, and clinical expertise.

“When my dad was in the hospital, Dr. Cox came by and noticed my dad kept rubbing his face and chin. He asked Dad if there was a problem with his face. Dad told him no but he needed a shave. Dr. Cox immediately got a container of warm water, a razor, and shaving cream and proceeded to shave my dad. Dad is dead now, but we will never forget this doctor’s kind act,” read one nomination.

Cox, a general surgeon with Easley General Surgeons, has practiced at Baptist Easley Hospital since 1989.

Chosen from among eight nominees for first-quarter 2010 Cam Underhill Practicing Excellence Award, Robert Finley, MD, amassed numerous nominations. An orthopaedic surgeon with Easley Orthopaedic Clinic, Finley has practiced at Baptist Easley Hospital for 32 years.

Patients and staff alike cited: “Dr. Finley truly displays the Standards of Behavior that Cam Underhill valued most: integrity, compassion, and caring,” and, “This physician exceeds the behaviors. I have experienced this through procedures he has performed on me. The quality of care is shown by an uncomplicated and short recovery time. He deserves this honor.”

“Baptist Easley is proud to honor these two award winners and all our practicing physicians on Doctors’ Day,” said Roddey E. Gettys III, CEO. “We are fortunate to have the best of the best to provide care for our community.”
