Receiving the honor from his peers makes the award worth even more.
“I’m really proud of this award because I respect (the other region athletic directors) so much,” Carter said.
Carter said he couldn’t have made it through the year without the advice of former EHS athletic director Mike Barnes, who retired at the end of last school year, and Sherry Haithcock, athletic director at Liberty High School.
“They gave me a certificate with this award,” Carter said. “I feel like I should rip it into three pieces and give one third to Coach Barnes and one to Sherry Haithcock. I probably drove them crazy with all the questions I’ve asked them.”
